Angels have been defined as divine messengers,
ministering spirits and attendant guardian beings. I see them as spirits of light and as I work within their energy, inspiration for a sculpture evolves.
I am sure that the location of my studio helps. Outside and often in the drizzle of
South West Scotland it overlooks the Solway Firth. Here I work, listening to the waves lapping, but mostly crashing, with swallows diving around me. It is certainly my spiritual home and I am lucky enough to have this influential backdrop for my
sculptures each one of which is created with a loved one in my mind.
I have found that my pieces take on a life of their own during the fairing and the glazing or bronzing processes, and acquire a separate
energy form their creator. Whatever, they are impressions, embodied wings if you like. My hope is that people find their own meaning in my sculptures but I like to think of them as messengers and guides who provide inspiration, comfort, intelligence
and support- a reminder that we are not alone and there is much more to come beyond this
life.
