Works of Art • Lincoln Seligman

Following a career as a lawyer in the 1970s Lincoln Seligman went on to become an international name making sculptures and giant suspended mobiles for atrium spaces in prime locations in Europe, USA and Asia. He is responsible for the world’s largest glass sculpture which hangs in Swire’s Festival Walk building in Hong Kong.

Nowadays Lincoln Seligman has chosen to concentrate on full-time painting and this exhibition forms a travelogue of work based on his recent travels around the world, notably Bhutan, Hong Kong, India, Sri Lanka, New York, South Carolina as well as to many parts of Europe. There will be around 60 paintings in the show, with prices ranging from £1,200 to £20,000.

Whilst celebrating his deep affection for the English countryside, he is fascinated by exotic landscapes, people and travel - and experiencing new countries allows him to maintain his fresh and unique perspective on the world. His paintings move from the simplicity of a Gloucestershire landscape to the bold colours of Indian turbans, to the abstract patterns in a coconut or a plate of seafood. Everyday  images are given a sharp, acutely observed, contemporary twist.

Lincoln Seligman has exhibited widely in London and New York including a recent one-man show at the Royal Academy. His paintings can be found in many important public collections including the New York Public Library, European Parliament, The Royal Palace Riyadh, Standard Chartered Bank, Flemings, Chanel and Laurent Perrier.

Lincoln Seligman has designed an award for this year’s ING Discerning Eye exhibition running from 11 - 21 November 2010 at The Mall Galleries, London SW1 (see www.discerningeye.org for more information). He was one of the four selectors at last year’s show.
