The School of Paris a term which embraces the talents of, among others, Chagall,
Matisse, Picasso, Miro, Degas, Manet, Sonia Delaunay, Renoir, Magritte, Braque, Cezanne, and Derain. This phenomenon arose when Paris was the centre of the world
for art creation. Over 100 foreign artists flocked to the French capital between 1910 and 1940
in search of ultimate freedom in every respect, meeting in celebrated studios and cafes of Montmartre and Montparnasse. As Chagall once
stressed,
'the
sun of art shone at that time only in Paris.'
