Our unusual collection of Russian art includes a collection of art from the Soviet period. Although this is history now, these unique years which endeavoured to create a political and economic utopia, produced many artists whose works are highly
valued. It is increasingly difficult to find high quality works from this Socialist Realist perios and to find them in good condition.
Some of the buildings which survive today testify to the trememdous power of Ladvinshenko's monumental art,
a peculiarity of the Soviet period, but it is mainly his drawings and sketches for the commissioned interiors of public buildings, civic centres and railway stations that remain intact today. His coloured and finished drawings and oil paintings
perfectly illustrate the Soviet period of the 20th century.
